Newborn chiropractic care is one of the gentlest things we do at Limitless Chiropractic, and it is often one of the most meaningful for the families we see in Ballantyne. The birth process, even a smooth one, places real physical stress on an infant's neck and spine. A chiropractic check shortly after birth can identify any tension patterns and address them before they become established.
Dr. Amanda leads the newborn and infant care at our office and has specific training in pediatric chiropractic. The amount of force used for a newborn is nothing like what you might picture from adult adjustments. We often describe it as the pressure you would use to check if a tomato is ripe, gentle, precise, and completely safe.
Parents come to us with newborns for a range of reasons: difficulty latching, feeding on only one side, unexplained fussiness or colic, poor sleep, and a head that tends to tilt or turn to one side. These can all have a cervical tension component that responds well to infant chiropractic care.
Why newborns may benefit from a chiropractic check
Even in a vaginal birth without complications, the forces involved in delivery are significant for a tiny spine and neck. C-sections, forceps or vacuum deliveries, or any prolonged labor can increase that stress. Cervical misalignments in newborns are often subtle and not visible on the surface, but they can affect how the baby turns their head, nurses, sleeps, and settles.
A chiropractic check is not about finding problems in a healthy baby. It is about making sure the spine and nervous system are starting out in the best possible alignment so that nothing gets in the way of normal development.
Common reasons parents bring in newborns and infants
- Difficulty latching on one or both sides
- Preference to nurse or turn the head to one side only
- Unexplained or inconsolable crying (colic)
- Gassiness and digestive discomfort
- Poor or restless sleep
- Head shape concerns or torticollis (neck tilting)
- General check-up after a difficult delivery
What an infant adjustment looks like
You will hold your baby or lay them on a supportive surface during the visit. Dr. Amanda first observes how the baby moves and feels gently along the neck and spine with her fingertips. The adjustment itself is a light fingertip contact, often with a small sustained pressure or a gentle oscillation, nothing sudden or forceful.
Many babies sleep through their adjustment or feed calmly during it. Fussiness during or after is uncommon and usually brief if it happens. Most parents notice changes in their baby's sleep, feeding, or overall comfort within a few days of the first visit.
Part of the Limitless family care approach
Newborn care does not happen in isolation at our office. We love seeing the whole family, which means if mom is recovering from delivery and working on postpartum alignment, and a toddler sibling needs a check too, all of that can happen in one visit at our Ballantyne Village location.
Dr. Amanda is the heart of the pediatric and newborn program here. She is a parent herself and understands intimately the vulnerability and hope that comes with a new baby. Call us at (704) 765-0454 to talk through your newborn's specific situation before you come in.
